Manchester United suffered a 1-0 defeat to the ASEAN All-Stars in a post-season friendly at Bukit Jalil Stadium in Malaysia. The only goal of the match came from Maung Maung Lwin, the captain of Myanmar’s national football team, in the 71st minute.

The ASEAN All-Stars Manchester United match was played under hot conditions, with kickoff temperatures reaching 32°C (90°F). United dominated possession but lacked sharpness in the final third.

⚽ First Half: ASEAN All-Stars Threaten Early

The All-Stars looked more dangerous in the opening half. They narrowly missed an early chance in the 16th minute, and United goalkeeper Andre Onana made a crucial save to deny them.

Kobbie Mainoo had the best chance for United before halftime, but his shot was cleared off the line. Despite the efforts of young talents and solid midfield control, United couldn’t break through.

🔥 Second Half: Maung Maung Lwin Makes the Difference

Substitutes Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho brought energy to United’s attack after the break. However, the breakthrough came for the ASEAN All-Stars when Maung Maung Lwin broke free and struck a powerful shot into the top corner past Tom Heaton in the 71st minute.

The goal shocked the United fans, and some began leaving the stadium early. Ruben Amorim’s squad faced boos at the final whistle.

📝 Manchester United Starting XI:

Onana; Munro, Maguire (c), Heaven; Dalot, Casemiro, Ugarte, Dorgu; Moorhouse, Mainoo; Hojlund.
Substitutes: Heaton, Fernandes, Garnacho, Evans, and others.

🔜 What’s Next for Manchester United?

Manchester United continues its post-season tour with another friendly match against the Hong Kong national team on May 30.

This loss follows a disappointing season for United, who finished 15th in the Premier League with only 42 points. They also missed Champions League qualification after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite the setback, head coach Ruben Amorim remains optimistic:

“Good days are coming. If there’s one club that can overcome anything, it’s Manchester United.”
